About

Blue Shirt Kid is a nickname given to a participant of an Indian street interview who voiced his support for YouTuber PewDiePie in his "subscriber war" against Indian YouTube channel T-Series. Following the interview, the boy gained significant popularity among the PewDiePie fanbase, with multiple memes dedicated to him posted on /r/PewdiepieSubmissions subreddit.

Origin

On March 5th, 2019, YouTube channel Asian Boss posted public opinion video in which several interview participants voiced their opinions on the ongoing competition between the two most subscribed YouTube channels PewDiePie and T-Series.[1]

In the video, one of the interviewees, a boy dressed in a blue shirt, voiced his support for PewDiePie and provided a number of insights into why T-Series is rapidly getting subscribers, linking the growth of the channel to the YouTube algorithm and spread of Jio telecommunications network in India.

- Why do you think T-Series is so big in India?
- Okay, first of all, the YouTube algorithm. They post like 20 videos a day.[…]
- So what's your understanding of the [PewDiePie vs. T-Series] situation?
- The top individual creator is since PewDiePie, so it doesn't make a difference. And even if he's not, he's making the same content, it doesn't matter if he's above or below T-Series in any way. Not to me at least.

On March 9th, 2019, PewDiePie uploaded his reaction to the video.[2] In the video, he praised the Blue Shirt Kid and expressed his admiration for his informedness and insight.

This kid knows what's up! […] Finally, someone speaking some truth here. […] Damn, this kid is so smart. YouTube, hire this kid!

Spread

Following the release of the PewDiePie reaction video, memes praising the kid, along with several other people who took part in the interviews, appeared on /r/PewdiepieSubmissions subreddit.[3][4] Some humorous posts utilized captioned images as macros.
