About
The Blurry Young Thug Photo and Boy Slow Down Dropping All That BS Music refers to a low-quality and pixelated photo of rapper Young Thug wearing a black shirt that's used as a reaction image on Twitter / X, referencing a 2016 Young Thug tweet that read, "Boy slow down dropping all that BS music…😭😂✌🏾." In the low-quality screenshot of the tweet, the blurry profile picture of Young Thug is shown. Going into the 2020s, meme creators used only the photo (and other cropped versions of the screenshot) to covertly call rap and music projects "BS music."
Origin
On February 3rd, 2016, rapper young posted a tweet[1] reading, "Boy slow down dropping all that BS music…😭😂✌🏾," receiving over 26,000 likes in eight years. The tweet was addressing fellow rapper Future when the two were beefing on Twitter for a few days.[2] A screenshot of the tweet was posted to X[3] by WorldStarHipHop later on February 3rd, receiving over 770 likes (shown below).
Spread
On December 8th, 2023, Young Thug's 2016 tweet resurfaced en masse, following rapper Playboi Carti's use of the tweet on his Instagram story (shown below, left). Carti purportedly used it to diss artist Frank Ocean. [3][4]
On December 9th, 2023, fellow Opium rapper Ken Carson tweeted[5] the tweet screenshot, gaining over 33,000 likes in four months (shown below, right). Some users in the replies[6] believed that Carson was dissing rapper Osamason.
In early 2024, the image of Young Thug gained usage on its own, acting as a code for Thug's tweet. For instance, on February 23rd, 2024, X[7] user @deadkysk tweeted the photo, captioning it, "niggas don’t even say yo music ass anymore they just stare at u like this," receiving over 23,000 likes in two months (shown below, left).
Later on February 23rd, 2024, Instagram[8] user @theraptimes uploaded a carousel post, including @deadkysk's tweet and other uses of the tweet, like a crudely made drawing (shown below, right). The Instagram user hid the amount of likes received.
The blurry iteration of the meme gained usage when X[9] user @kaixan2k quoted rapper Trippie Redd with the image on March 27th, 2024, writing, "thank God ur label paid in advance 😭😂✌️," gaining over 83,000 likes in six days (shown below, left).
The viral quote prompted a response from Trippie Redd, who posted on X[10] later on March 27th, 2024, writing, "This cap. I’ll double the money if you show proof you got paid 🧢," receiving over 16,000 likes in six days (shown below, right).
