About

Ceiling Titty, also known as the Boob Light or Ceiling Titties, refers to a kind of light fixture that resembles the shape of a breast with a nipple that many people have in their homes and apartments around the world. The type of light fixture was first called a "ceiling titty" online in February 2011 on Twitter. However, the slang term was popularized most notably In September 2013 after a viral Vine made a reference to the object.

Origin

On February 3rd, 2011, Twitter[1] user @j_hussein tweeted the first known utterance of "ceiling titty" in a reply to a now-deleted tweet. Their tweet (shown below) didn't receive any likes after being posted.

"Ceiling Titty" became a more well-known reference after a Vine[3] was posted on September 11th, 2013, by Viner Michael_Lapriore, wherein the video, he sang a song about having a ceiling titty and wondering if others have a ceiling titty too. The Vine (shown below) gained roughly 3.9 million loops and 523,800 likes after it was posted.

After the above post received notable attention, internet users across Vine and Twitter began sharing that they in fact had a ceiling titty too. For instance, Twitter[4] user @Jackehs15, tweeted on September 12th, 2013, "The "ceiling titty" song is forever stuck in my head." Viners[5] like Kristen Hesss posted videos (like the one below) on October 20th, 2013, that showed off their own ceiling titties.

On January 18th, 2014, Twitter[6] user @ERIKSAEVI posted a tweet that captioned a photo of a ceiling titty with, "mom took away all of my electronics last week so i had to jack off to this ceiling titty." The tweet (shown below) received roughly 13,000 likes over the course of seven years.

Ceiling titties remained a recognizable meme reference from 2013 all the way to 2021. In April 2019, the /r/CeilingTiddy[7] subreddit was created for people to share images of their own light fixtures.

Also in 2019, MEL Magazine writer Quinn Myers published an article[8] titled, "The Great American History Of The Boob Light," that detailed the historical trajectory of the notable light fixture.

In late November 2021, ceiling titties were notably referenced again on Twitter after a tweet was posted by Twitter[9] user @sandavidcito that included a photo of a ceiling titty in a car with the caption, "what y'all know about luxury[?]" The tweet (shown below) received roughly 110,700 likes in four days' time.
