About
Clussy is a portmanteau of the words "clown" and "pussy," falling under the umbrella of -ussy variations such as Bussy, Thussy and Thrussy, among others. Clussy came to prominence in late 2017 following the release of the film It featuring the character Pennywise the Clown. A Tumblr user first uttered the slang term in reference to losing their virginity to Pennywise.
Origin
Although "clussy" had been used by Twitter[1] user Georgeous_Fox on August 22nd, 2017, to refer to the ARMS character Lola Pop, the term didn't receive mainstream recognition until September 2017 when Tumblr[2] user slushi was asked an anonymous question by one of his followers. The question read, "Headcanons about pennywise taking your virginity???" and slushi responded with a long-form answer, ending it by saying, "But also like I feel that he can change his dick/clussy/etc.. So like idk,, it'd be very interesting." In one month, the post received six notes (shown below).
The original Tumblr post was deleted by slushi once a screenshot of it was reposted to Twitter. Although the original, viral Twitter repost has since been deleted as well, a notable marker of its existence can be seen in a tweet from Twitter[3] user cathedraIward made on September 18th, 2017, in which they attached the screenshot of slushi's Tumblr post, receiving over 830 likes in five years (shown below).
Spread
Because of the repost to Twitter, "clussy" started to be referenced on the platform going into the remainder of September 2017. For instance, on September 18th, Twitter[4] user sanayawrites tweeted, "i hope the tumblr user who created the word clussy to describe pennywise takin their virginity is having a bad day today," earning six likes after being posted (shown below, left). On October 11th, 2017, Twitter[5] user barbiesswanlake captioned an image of Pennywise looking dejected and smoking in the rain, referencing "clussy" in the tweet and receiving nine likes (shown below, right).
On September 27th, Instagram [6] page dietnigga posted a meme that referenced "clussy," earning over 45 likes in five years (shown below, left). On October 2nd, 2017, Twitter[7] user cixodus used the word, earning over 50 likes in five years (shown below, right).
In 2019, "clussy" received a resurgence in usage. For instance, on May 25th, 2019, Twitter[8] user and cosplayer babyybatt made herself look like Pennywise, captioning the images, "come collect this clussy🎈." The tweet received over 700 likes in three years (shown below, left). On August 7th, 2019, Instagram[9] account oheypete posted a "clussy" meme, earning roughly 2,600 likes in three years (shown below, right). This resurgence in usage could be attributed to the release of It Chapter Two in late August 2019.
"Clussy" references peaked again at the end of 2021 and going into 2022. For instance, on December 22nd, 2021, an anonymous 4chan user made a post that started what they called a "clussy thread" (shown below). Although the post has since been removed, it was reposted to /r/NewGreentexts[10] on the same day, earning over 290 likes in three months.
On January 10th, 2022, Twitter[11] user keffals humorously reminisced about when everyone was, "really horny for clown girls," earning roughly 7,300 likes for her tweet over the course of two months (shown below, left). On March 17th, 2022, Redditor FemClownLover made a post to /r/confessions[12] that was titled, "I'm so desperate to have sex with a female clown I can't take it." The post (shown below, right) received roughly 4,300 upvotes in one week and brought attention back to the slang term once more.
"Clussy" was also popularized on TikTok in early 2022. For instance, on January 27th, 2022, TikToker bouncyclown posted a video that had text overlay reading, "does that clussy honk," earning roughly 439,800 plays and 47,700 likes in two months (shown below, left). TikToker bouncyclown continued to post "clussy" content going into 2022,[13] like one video posted on February 27th that earned roughly 205,300 plays in one month (shown below, right).

Another place where "clussy" memes became popular was on iFunny where users made memes about "clussy" ironically. For instance, a screenshot of the bouncyclown's TikTok (shown above, left) was featured on iFunny in 2022, reposted by iFunnyer[14] JMIII_BUT_CANCER on March 6th, earning roughly 3,500 smiles in 18 days (shown below).
