Custom Vans refers a series of TikTok videos in which users create meme inspired Vans[2] by using the Vans shoe brand feature[1] that allows customers to upload photos to design their shoes.
Origin
On April 22nd, 2019, TikTok user bigboujeegaygirl uploaded the earliest known custom vans video featuring their Rani Rodriguez design (shown below). The video gained over 318,700 likes and 24,300 shares in three days.

Spread
On April 22nd 2019, more TikTok users began creating custom Vans online inspired by memes. @katerth0t uploaded a video of Vans with a Peppa Pig design which gained over 400 likes in three days (shown below, left). The next day, @ironicemojis uploaded a video featuring Squidward Vans which garnered over 200 likes in two days (shown below, center). On April 24th, @ameliala uploaded an I'm Baby rendition that accumulated over 170 likes in a day (shown below, right).
