Digitally Replacing Trump in "Home Alone 2" refers to a trend on Twitter in which users photoshop Donald Trump out of his cameo in the film "Home Alone 2: Lost In New York" and replace him with another character in response to Trump being banned across multiple social media sites.

Origin

On November 20th, 1992, "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York"[10] was released in North America, featuring a cameo from Donald Trump (shown below).

Following the 2021 Storming of the United States Capitol various social media websites began banning Donald Trump.[1] On January 8th, Joseph Longo, a writer for MEL Magazine, tweeted,[2] "Digitally remove him from Home Alone 2 next" referencing Trump (shown below). The tweet garnerd over 562,400 likes and 50,400 retweetes in 3 days.

Shortly after the post, @BrendanMilove replied to the post with a screenshot[3] from Trump's cameo in "Home Alone 2" replacing Trump's head with Keanu Reeves', garnering over 25,400 likes and 1,700 retweets in 3 days (shown below).

Users began making and posting their own photoshopped versions of the scene as the tweet went viral. On January 9th, 2021, @Ben_Etc posted a version of the screenshot to Twitter[5] replacing Donald Trump with Star Wars character Jabba the Hutt, garnering over 1,200 likes and 200 retweets in 2 days (shown below, left). On the same day, @glenrules posted[6] a version of the screenshot featuring Dolly Parton in place of Trump, garnering over 1,300 likes in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

On that same day, @maxschramp uploaded a video to Twitter[7] in which he makes Trump transparent in his cameo and mutes his voice, garnering over 819,000 views, 91,500 likes, and 15,200 retweets in 2 days (shown below). Later that day, Independent[9] published an article about how people on Twitter want Trump removed from the film.



On January 10th, @KaelenRamos posted a video to Twitter[4] replacing Trump with Hatsune Miku dancing to a Fortnite song, writing, ""In all future releases of "Home Alone 2", the role of [redacted] will now be played by Hatsune Miku." The post garnered over 813,000 views, 98,000 likes, and 23,000 retweets in 1 day (shown below).



On the same day, BuzzFeed[8] published an article detailing the trend and showing off various images related to it.
