About

Dinosaur Month, also known as June Is Dinosaur Month or Jurassic June, is the satirical replacement of LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June) with a month dedicated to dinosaurs and dino-posting. The memes often portrayed humorous ignorance about the existence of Pride Month, seemingly only knowing about the upcoming Dinosaur Month celebrations. Alternatively, the memes proposed Pride Month being canceled and replaced with Dinosaur Month. The concept was first made into memes in 2022 on iFunny, inspired by June 1st already being considered Dinosaur Day in the U.S., additionally coinciding with Jurassic Park's anniversary being in June. Dinosaur Month memes resurfaced en masse in late May 2023 in anticipation of Pride Month beginning on June 1st.

Origin

It's known online that June 1st is Dinosaur Day.^[1] Additionally, June 11th is the anniversary of the 1993 film Jurassic Park.^[2] In 2021, Jurassic Park related Twitter^[3] accounts attested that June was called "Jurassic June." A year later, on June 1st, 2022, iFunnier^[4] @Dumb_Snek posted a meme with Impact captions reading, "STEP ASIDE HOMOS / JUNE IS NOW DINOSAUR APPRECIATION MONTH," gaining roughly 9,400 smiles in 11 months (shown below). It is currently the first discovered Dinosaur Month meme online.

Spread

Going into June 2022, semi-viral variations of the concept surfaced on the platform. For instance, on June 3rd, 2022, iFunnier^[5] @thememegiveth posted a Dinosaur Month meme, gaining over 20 smiles in a year (shown below, left). On June 18th, 2022, iFunnier^[6] @Liberty_Fuckin_Belle posted a Jimmy Neutron meme which had the phrase "Jurassic June" in it, gaining 10 smiles in 11 months (shown below, right).

On May 23rd, 2023, iFunnier^[7] @V_ENDETTA posted a meme that proclaimed Pride Month was canceled because of White Boy Summer, gaining roughly 12,800 smiles in three days. Later on May 23rd, iFunnier^[8] @DankiusMemiusthe3rd posted a comment reading, "June is dinosaur month and i will die on this hill get this shit trending," gaining over 40 smiles in three days. @DankiusMemiusthe3rd's was amplified by iFunnier^[9] @wonderingwombat later on May 23rd, who posted a screenshot of the comment with a bottom caption reading, "CELEBRATE DINOSAUR MONTH," gaining roughly 7,500 smiles in three days (shown below).

After their initial post on May 23rd, 2023, iFunnier^[10] @wonderingwombat posted another meme about Dinosaur Month that read, "Pride month is cancelled It is Dinosaur Month," gaining roughly 6,500 smiles in three days (shown below, left). In the following days, others on the app started to perpetuate the concept. For instance, on May 24th, 2023, iFunnier^[11] @DarthHater posted a photoshopped GigaChad with a dinosaur head, gaining roughly 4,100 smiles in two days (shown below, right).

Memes about Dinosaur Month persisted on iFunny in late May 2023 in anticipation of June 1st, 2023. The memes also started to spread to Instagram.^[12]
