Elephant Peach is a transformation undergone by Super Mario character Princess Peach when she obtains a particular power-up in the 2023 video game Super Mario Bros. Wonder, making her a humanoid elephant (similar to Elephant Mario). After it was revealed in late August 2023 that Peach and much of the playable cast in Super Mario Bros. Wonder could morph into elephant versions of themselves in the game, jokes and fan art about the transformation began spreading on social media.

Origin

On August 31st, 2023, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct focused entirely on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.^[1] During the Direct, Nintendo revealed that much of the playable cast of Wonder, including Peach, Daisy, Luigi, Toad and Toadette, could obtain an elephant power-up that would morph them into elephant versions of themselves, as is the case with Elephant Mario (graphic shown below).

Precursor

After the June 2023 reveal of Elephant Mario, many social media users and artists speculated that "Elephant Peach" would follow, leading to an outpouring of fan art about the character. For example, on June 27th, 2023, DeviantArt^[6] user awesomesir posted art imagining "Elephant Peach" (shown below).

Spread

The reveal of the elephant-ized cast had much of the internet focused on Elephant Peach. Upon her unveiling, many users joked that the character would lead to a bevy of fan art, perhaps of Rule 34 nature.

On August 31st, 2023, X user @tippitytoptweet^[2] posted a Tornado Selfie meme implying that a wave of Elephant Peach and Daisy fan art was incoming, gaining over 70 likes in 30 minutes (shown below, left). That same day, user @Cybrid101^[3] sarcastically quipped, "I’m sure all the elephant Peach artwork won’t get out of hand or anything," gaining over 30 retweets and 220 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Sure enough, fan art began appearing online shortly after the reveal of Elephant Peach. X user @cephalorabbit^[4] was one of the first to post art of Elephant Peach, posting just 30 minutes after the character's reveal (shown below, left). Shortly after that post, user @mapurite82^[5] also posted art of the character originally by DigitalSunLite^[7] (shown below, right).
