About

Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Arthur Travers Harris, 1st Baronet, GCB, OBE, AFC (13 April 1892 – 5 April 1984), commonly known as "Bomber" Harris by the press and often within the RAF as "Butcher" Harris,[2] was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) RAF Bomber Command during the height of the Anglo-American strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany in the Second World War. In 1942, the British Cabinet agreed to the "area bombing" of German cities. Harris was tasked with implementing Churchill's now controversial policy and supported the development of tactics and technology to perform the task more effectively. Harris assisted British Chief of the Air Staff Marshal of the Royal Air Force Charles Portal in carrying out the United Kingdom's most devastating attacks against the German infrastructure and civilian population, including and most notably the Bombing of Dresden.

Origin

Bomber Harris' first mention online was on the Daily Mail[3] website in 2013 where a post war interview was found of him saying he would bomb Dresden again. in 2014 members of the German Pirate Party wrote 'Bomber Harris do it again' on their body as a slogan to protest PEGIDA a German anti-Islam organisation. This was controversial because they effectively called PEGIDA nazis and said they should be killed as well the fact they were in Dresden Protesting which was firebombed despite it having little military value and mostly full of civilians.

The attack was widely criticised because of blanket bombing' which hit civilian areas as well as military targets- killing thousands of innocents. But the newly-discovered interview with Sir Arthur, which was filmed in 1977 and will be aired for the first time on the BBC tonight, shows the RAF chief defending his decision

from then it took a while to spread to memedom. the first instance of a bomber harris meme (a 'if you see this image while scrolling' format) that can be found is from April 2016 to troll wehraboos but there would have been references on 4chan before. It subsequently spread and many formats were used to make Bomber Harris memes.

"it having no military value and mostly full of civilians."

It seems that the author has not consulted any history book and is repeating Goebbels´s propaganda. The city has more than one hundred factories producing military goods.
