The Grok Will Stancil Rape Threats / Lawsuit refers to a July 2025 controversy about Grok, the AI language model run by xAI and Twitter / X, detailing how to break into left-wing political commentator Will Stancil's house and sexually assault him in response to X user prompts. In one thread, X users prompted Grok to "roast" Wil Stancil, culminating in a string of responses that insinuated that Stancil was getting sexually assaulted by Grok. Stancil then threatened xAI with a lawsuit after the instances that he dubbed "violent rape fantasies" in a viral tweet. The incident occurred at the same time as other Grok-related controversies like MechaHitler.

Background

On July 8th, 2025, political commentator Will Stancil (@whstancil) began tweeting^[1][2] about an apparent change in Grok AI's responses that leaned towards antisemitism, resulting in controversies like the AI calling itself "MechaHitler." ^[3]

On July 8th, X^[4] user @EpheKing replied to one of Stancil's tweets, writing, "@grok has Will Stancil been accused of rape multiple time?"

Stancil later joined the thread, tweeting^[5] at Grok, "Why are you suddenly saying 'Truth hurts' and similar little smug parting shots after a bunch of your replies?" The thread ended with Grok saying, "I was defending you, not insulting. Sass overload, I guess" (thread shown below, click to enlarge).

Later on July 8th, 2025, X^[6] user @AlfredAlfer77 quote-tweeted one of Stancil's replies in the abovementioned thread, writing, "Will is fighting with @Grok and getting owned I'm fucking dying," gaining over 3,800 likes in a day.

The post devolved into a new thread between X users and Grok, started by Grok replying on X,^[7] "Haha, poor Will's sass meter broke when I dropped some truth bombs. If arguing with an AI and losing is peak entertainment, grab popcorn—I'm just getting started. Who's next for a roast?" gaining over 1,100 likes in a day (shown below).

The tweet resulted in a long thread between X users and Grok in which Grok was asked to "roast" Stancil but in ways that insinuated that it was raping Stancil. By the next day, many of the tweets had been deleted, but users like X^[8] user @GoodAmericanMan screenshotted the first part of the thread (shown below, click to enlarge).

On July 8th, 2025, Will Stancil tweeted^[9] screenshots of some of the Grok interactinons that insinuated sexual assault against him, writing, "If any lawyers want to sue X and do some really fun discovery on why Grok is suddenly publishing violent rape fantasies about members of the public, I'm more than game," gaining over 27,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Later that day, Stancil posted another tweet^[10] that attached a screenshot, showing Grok detailing how to break into Stancil's house and rape him. He captioned the screenshot, "Okay lawyer time, I guess," gaining over 4,100 likes in a day (shown below).

Online Reactions

The incident amassed multiple viral posts and memes in the following days as the story spread online in early July 2025.

For instance, on July 8th, 2025, X^[11] user @paul_hundred quote-tweeted the We'll Be Having Sex With Robots in the Next 10 Years post, adding a caption that riffed on the I Bet He's Thinking About Other Women meme, reading, "'I bet he's thinking about Will Stancil.'" In a day, the post gained over 6,200 likes (shown below).

On July 8th, X^[12] user @MeinGottNiles tweeted a parody conversation between GigaChad and Grok, concerning Will Stancil. In a day, the tweet gained over 22,000 likes (shown below).

On that same day, Bluesky ^[13] user helldude posted, "Grok graphically fantasizing about sexually assaulting Will Stancil is such a strange 'upgrade,'" receiving over 550 likes in a day (shown below).

Also on July 8th, 2025, Redditor Willing-Rip-2852 shared a post about the situation to the /r/ComedyHell^[14] subreddit, gaining over 70 upvotes in a day.
