Kathy Griffin's Beheaded Trump Picture refers to a photograph of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a bloody dummy head of President Donald Trump. The picture caused controversy for the goriness of the image and the implied violence against the president.

On May 30th, 2017, TMZ[1] released the photograph (shown below), which came from an as-yet unreleased photoshoot Griffin did with photographer Tyler Shields.

The image was also denounced by the left. In a tweet, Chelsea Clinton denounced the image, saying "This is vile and wrong. It is never funny to joke about killing a president" (shown below, left).[2] CNN anchor Anderson Cooper expressed similar sentiments, saying "For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate" (shown below, right).[4]

By the end of the evening, Griffin took to Twitter to apologize for the photo, saying that she went too far and that she was wrong (shown below).




Trump responded the following morning, tweeting "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"[5] A thread inquiring about the incident was posted to /r/OutOfTheLoop[6] that day, gaining over 1,600 points.

Is there a joke in here, or is this that sort of humor? You know, the one where you don't make any actual jokes and you just insult a political position and say and do rather tasteless things that are only okay because it's the other side and everyone laughs and claps because it's the other side and people they hate and it's basically the equivalent of a reddit circlejerk in a real room someone paid for?
