Overview

Roblox Pro-Palestine Protests refers to protests held in support of freeing Palestine in relation to the Hamas vs. Israel conflict in the video game Roblox, specifically on the server "Dataran Tanjung Mas" by Tanah Melayu Official. In October 2023, a video of Roblox players protesting on the server went viral on TikTok, gaining viral spread to sites like X (formerly Twitter) and gaining widespread media coverage.

History

On October 14th, 2023, Roblox^[1] user Tanah Melayu Official created the Experience "(PALESTINE) Dataran Tanjung Mas," which was visited over 157,000 times and favorited 1,900 times in the following two weeks. On October 22nd, TikToker^[11] @cikguzyd posted a video of himself speaking at a pro-Palestine protest happening on the server, garnering over 2 million views in three days (shown below, left). TikToker^[2] @roshanotgamer posted a video of a pro-Palestine protest happening on the server, garnering over 2.1 million views in three days (shown below, right).

Online Presence / Reactions

News of the protest spread over the following days, attracting reactions and media coverage. On October 23rd, 2023, X^[3] user @funnecfox posted, "y’all my cousin is 15 and couldn’t join a protest so she just went to one on roblox bro i’m crying 😭😭😭😭😭" garnering over 166,300 likes in two days (shown below). The next day, X^[4] user @sushislurpee posted the TikTok video under the X post, garnering over 77,000 likes in a day.

That day, X^[5] user @SaeedDiCaprio reposted the video, writing, "roblox players are doing more for palestine than politicians 😭," garnering over 213,000 views in a day. Kotaku^[6] and Mashable^[7] reported on the protest later that day. On the same day, TikToker^[8] @0mgwinter posted a video reacting to the protest, garnering over 100,000 views in a day. TikToker^[9] @its_danzy posted a reaction video that gained over 500,000 views in the same span of time (shown below). X^[10] user @vidsthatgohard posted the video, garnering over 5,900 likes in a day.
