Excuse Me What The Fuck is a series of reaction image macros of a distorted image of the character Vault Boy from the video game Fallout. The image features the caption "excuse me what the fuck" to express disbelief or incredulity.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the image was posted by Instagram ^[6] user @Vaultythedude on April 5th, 2016. That day, they posted an image of a distorted Vault Boy with the caption "dab." The post (shown below) received more than 125 likes in two-and-a-half years.

On January 8th, 2018 by Redditor ^[1] Znepu on the /r/DDLC subreddit. The post (shown below) received more than 95- points (98% upvoted) and 20 comments.

Spread

The following month, on February 25th, an Imgur^[2] user uploaded the image with the caption, "When yo homie tell you its gay even with socks on." The post (shown below, left) received more than 170 views in seven months.

On July 20th, Redditor^[3] Nuclear_Scientists posted a variation in the /r/HistoryMemes subreddit. The post was captioned, "Germany: We will honour Dutch neutrality / Belgium:" The post (shown below, center) received more than 735 points (100% upvoted) in less than one month.

Two weeks later, on August 12th, Redditor^[4] emperor2111 reposted a variation from /r/HistoryMemes^[5] in the /r/dankmemes subreddit. The post was captioned, "Population: 'We need more food our people are starving.' / Soviet Union: ==sends a dog into space== / Population:" The post (shown below, right) received more than 34,000 points (91% upvoted) and 400 comments.
