About
Fasten Your Seatbelt is a popular source song for YouTube Poop Music Videos by the Australian drum & bass group Pendulum featuring The Freestylers.[1] Similarly, another song by the band, Witchcraft, has become a commonly used music resource for YTPMVs.
Origin
The song "Fasten Your Seatbelt" is from Pendulum's fourth overall single, the double A-side Tarantula / Fasten Your Seatbelt[2], which was released on June 27th, 2005 by independent label Breakbeat Kaos (shown below) off of their debut album Hold Your Colour as the album's third single. The first YTPMV made with the song is "Fasten Your Squidbelts" which was uploaded by a YouTube user Chinelin[3] on the February 17th, 2011. The video included the 2nd episode of the Nickelodeon series Spongebob Squarepants remixed with the song. The video has since been taken down, and no known re-uploads exist.
Spread
Other YTPMV creators began mimicking the video style by using the this song in various videos with the phrasal template "Fasten Your X". Later, on August 8th, 2011, YouTube user mirrorimage uploaded a video of a YTPMV of the song combined with clips from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (shown below, left). The video has since gained over 200,000 views in under 5 years. On October 9th, 2015, YouTube user Cyranek uploaded a video combining the song and Smoke Weed Everyday (shown below, right). The video has since gained over 60,00 views in 6 months.
