Feddy refers to an Amogus style drawing of Freddy Fazbear and other characters from the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, depicting the characters in a crudely drawn style with stubby legs, no arms and misspelling their names by omitting and rearranging letters. The first Feddy image was posted to Tumblr in 2015 by artist phillip-bankss, predating the Amogus meme, and shows the character Bonnie in the same style. The Freddy version was first uploaded to Tumblr in 2020, inspiring a redraw series in the following months. A subreddit for Feddy photoshops and ironic memes, /r/feddy, was opened in March 2020.

Origin

On April 29th, 2015, Tumblr^[1] user phillip-bankss was requested through Tumblr's Q&A feature with the message, "Can you draw bonnie Obliterating his guitar," to which he replied with a GIF of Bonnie, an animatronic rabbit from FNAF, making a guitar explode just by looking at it, gaining over 3,200 notes in seven years (shown below).

Spread

On February 16th, 2020, Tumblr^[2] user vennitrii posted an image of Freddy Fazbear staring down at a microphone in the same style as the Bonnie drawing, writing, "I find this image INCREDIBLY funny," gaining over 5,900 notes in two years (shown below).

On March 11th, Redditor ComfieFNAFposted a photoshopped version of the meme to /r/fivenightsatfreddys,^[4] turning Feddy into his Funtime Freddy variant, gaining over 730 upvotes in the same roughly two years (shown below, left). On March 12th, Redditor SweetPotatoooo posted a version of the character Mangle to /r/5nafcirclejerk,^[5] gaining over 490 upvotes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right). On the same date, /r/feddy^[6] was opened by Redditors C0mfie and throwawaypenis32525, with the posts cross-posted to it.

On March 15th, an anonymous Tumblr^[3] user asked phillip-bankss, the artist behind the Bonnie meme, "whos feddy," to which the artist revealed he doesn't know if he drew the Feddy version, writing, "idek if i drew THIS exact version of this image, i know i drew the og bonnie version of it, but im not certain about the freddy one. i probably still have the original file somewhere stashed away" (shown below).

The /r/feddy^[7][8] subreddit accumulated over 2,300 members as of January 2022 and is dedicated to ironic photoshops and memes of the Feddy character (examples shown below, left and right). The users often make comparisons to Amogus within the images due to the similar shapes of the characters.

On April 16th, 2020, YouTuber Mecha uploaded a video consisting of the Feddy meme with a song from FNAF in the background, gaining over 1.3 million views in just under two years (shown below).

On December 18th, YouTuber LCM The Meowth posted a video reading the names of a number of Feddy memes in a babyish voice, gaining over 78,400 views in just over a year (shown below).

Following the release of FNAF: Security Breach in mid-December 2021, a number of Feddy variations based on the game's characters were posted to /r/feddy, including versions of Gregory, Sun and Vanessa (shown below, respectively).

On January 5th, 2022, TikToker @whiterowypl posted a video where they recreate the Feddy meme using clay, gaining over 1.4 million views in a week (shown below).
