Fellas, If Your Girl or refers to a series of image macros which start off by saying "Fellas, if your girl," present a list of traits which would lead someone to identify "their girl," and end with a surprising character as the punchline. The meme is very similar to He's Not Your Man, though done in image macros instead of tweets.
Origin
On June 28th, 2019, Instagram[1] user @principiamemematica uploaded an image saying "Fellas, if your girl is curvy, interesting, and hard to understand, that's not you girl, it's Schrodinger's wave function." The image received more than 6,000 likes. On November 4th, Redditor[2] ukitlol reposted the image to /r/physicsmemes subreddit and received 189 points (94% upvotes) (shown below).
Precursor
He's Not Your Man is a bait-and-swich snowclone in which a post begins by suggesting that if "Ladies, if your man" does certain things, he's not "your man." However, over the course of the listed things, it's clear the poster is talking about someone highly specific, leading to the punchline, "He's not your man. He's X." The meme spread after September 22nd, 2018, when Twitter user @kyleplantemoji posted the first popular variation of the joke, with the punchline leading to former United States President Rutherford B. Hayes. The tweet gained over 20,000 retweets and 139,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
The template began spreading over the following year on numerous platforms. For example, on July 1st, 2019, iFunny[3] user iSaiyaman uploaded an image identifying Giorno Giovanna from Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, gaining 75 likes (shown below, left). On December 25th, 2019, Twitter[5] user @roxiqt uploaded tweet version of the meme. The tweet received more than 440 retweets and 3,900 likes.
The meme began growing more popular on Facebook in 2020. For example on July 17th, 2020, Facebook[4] page "A page full with anime memes" uploaded an image with Rias Gremory from the anime Highschool DxD and a Ferrari 458. The image received 300 reactions and 181 shares (shown below).
