Get Blown Up or Get a Treat refers to a series of memes in which pets are given a choice between two sticky notes with the options "get blown up" and "get a treat" written on them. In the memes, pets typically pick the first option, with the video ending with a filter and graphic of a missile strike, or similar footage, being applied to them. The trend originated in March 2024 on TikTok and then spread over the following months.

Origin

On March 6th, 2024, TikTok[1] user @whysowonk uploaded a video of her dog choosing between two stickers with the options "get blown up!" and "get 10 treats" written on them. In the video, the dog picks the first sticker, with the video ending with a footage of an air strike and a following explosion superimposed over over the video of the dog. The meme (shown below) received over 5.7 million views and 1 million likes in four months (shown below).

Spread

Starting on March 7th, 2024, other users on TikTok shared similar videos in which they offered their pets a choice between treats and getting blown up or other similar options written on pieces of paper. On March 7th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @izanaliese posted a video (shown below, left) that received over one million views and 163,000 likes in four months. Also that day, TikTok[3] user @baamalama posted a video that garnered over 290,000 views and 48,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

On March 9th, TikTok[4] user @grayslala posted a viral meme of her dog titled "Bye Bye Fatty" (shown below) that received over 18 million views and 3.3 million likes in four months and was widely circulated online.
