About
Giffany is a pixel art video game character featured in the Disney animated TV series Gravity Falls.. On the series, her appearance has been linked with a yandere personality and the unique barrette she wears.
Origin
Giffany first appeared on the fifth episode of Gravity Falls' second season: Soos and the Real Girl, being voiced by Jessica DiCicco and animated by famed pixel animator, Paul Robertson. On the epsiode, Soos Ramirez, buys a dating simulator game to help him talk to girls and get a date to his cousin's wedding, but Giffany gets jealous when Soos talks to other girls and soon tries to "eliminate competition".[2] The episode, first premiered on September 22nd, 2014, was well received, getting around 0.8 million viewers on its premiere and a 8.7 rating on the Internet Movie Database.[3][4]
Spread
Giffany's popularity occurred almost as soon as Soos and the Real Girl aired, possibly due to her anime inspiration, pixel art appearance and the pre-existing Gravity Falls fan base. The earliest discussions threads seem to have begun on 4Chan's Comics & Cartoons (/co/)[5] and Reddit[6]. However, fan art began appearing on Deviant Art[7][8] and Giffany Twitter accounts[9] were created. An Ask Giffany blog was created on Tumbler[10].
