About
There Is Nothing About This I Understand refers to a two-panel exploitable taken from Gravity Falls in which the character Stanley looks at something and states "There is nothing about this I understand." The exploitable has been used in a similar manner to Why Is Millennial Humor So Weird? in that it highlights some of the more surreal and nonsensical memes online.
Origin
The line comes from Season 2, Episode 12 of Gravity Falls, "A Tale of Two Stans."[1] In the moment, the character Stanford is showing something to the character Stanley, who says, "Look, I've been around the world, okay? Whatever it is, I'll understand." After being shown a portal room, he states, "There is nothing about this I understand."
Spread
A two-image exploitable template of the scene began spreading on April 4th, 2018. That day, several posts appeared across Reddit, with popular posts appearing on /r/MemeEconomy[2] and gaining over 400 points and /r/wholesomememes[3] and gaining over 280 points (shown below).
However, the template began growing more popular as more surreal and nonsensical posts were used as the punchline. For example, on April 28th, Reddit user Its_Just_Corbin used the template with Markiplier E, gaining over 3,800 points on /r/dankmemes.[4] Over a year later, the template had a resurgence with similar posts highlighting current bizarre memes. For example, on August 2nd, 2019, Redditor iam4real posted the template with Enslaved Moisture to /r/memes, gaining over 19,000 points[5] (shown below, right).
