Origin
On December 11th, 2023, X[1] / Twitter user @drewjanda wrote, "The haters said I couldn’t do it. And they were correct. Honestly great call from the haters." The post, which jokingly subverted cliche posts about proving one's haters wrong, received over 14,000 reposts and quote posts and 76,000 likes in two days.
Later on the same day, X[2] user @SevaUT posted the earliest found joke based on the post, quote posting it with the caption, "Gorbachev in August 1991." The post (shown below) received over 530 reposts and 7,900 likes in two days.
Spread
Later on December 11th, 2023, X[3] user @realJaredGilman posted a Beau Is Afraid Speech Bubbling meme that received over 970 reposts and 14,000 likes in two days (shown below).
More similar Speech Bubbling memes based on the copypasta were posted in the following days. For example, on December 12th, 2023, X[4] user @kendallhossini one such meme referencing the Succession drama series that received over 3,900 reposts and 35,000 likes in one day (shown below, left).
Later that day, X[5] user @buckfastbadlad posted an OceanGate Titanic Submarine Incident meme based on the copypasta that gained over 13,000 reposts and 128,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).
