Darling, Please Give Me the Hair Dryer, also known as Hand Me the Damn Dryer, refers to a "wife bad" boomer comic in which a woman standing in a bathroom with wet hair asks her husband to hand her a hair dryer, with the disgruntled husband handing her a handgun instead, implying that he wants his wife to shoot herself. In February 2025, the webcomic achieved virality as a redraw meme format online as people replaced the wife and husband with other pop culture characters.

Origin

On December 10th, 2007, Italian cartoon artist Anwar Maggi posted a cartoon titled "Asciugacapelli" (it. "Hair Dryer") to the entertainment website Bastadidentro.it.^[1] In the cartoon, a woman standing in front of a bathroom mirror after washing her hair asks her husband to pass her a hair dryer. The man gives her a gun instead, wishing for her to accidentally shoot herself.

A version of the cartoon translated into English has been circulated online at least since November 2009. On November 7th, 2009, blogger^[2] Linda Ikeji made the earliest found repost of the translated version of the cartoon (shown below).

The translated version of the cartoon was widely circulated online in the late 2000s and throughout the 2010s, including reposts on Facebook,^[3] Reddit^[4] and numerous blogs.^[5]

On July 12th, 2019, artist JHallComics posted the earliest found edit of the comic, adding a panel that subverted the cartoon in a wholesome way. The edit (shown below) garnered over 60 reposts and 650 likes on X^[6] and over 690 reactions and 500 shares on Facebook^[7] in six years.

On August 2nd, 2023, X^[8] user @ppppppuri posted the earliest found redraw meme based on the cartoon, a Quackity SMP meme that received over 930 reposts and 6,600 likes in two years (shown below).

On February 22nd, 2025, X^[9] user @crocdocz posted a Persona 5 redraw meme based on the cartoon, altering the speech bubble to read, "Akechi hand me the damn dryer." The post (shown below) received over 3,200 reposts and 29,000 likes in two weeks.

The post sparked a redraw trend in late February 2025, with users posting redraw memes featuring characters from anime and other media using the format.
