Harry Potter in X AI Trend refers to a series of AI-generated videos which imagine Harry Potter characters in various settings. Started by a video imagining Harry Potter as an 80s yakuza film, the trend maintained popularity on YouTube through 2023.

Origin

On January 10th, 2023, YouTube[1] user demonflyingfox posted a video titled "Harry Potter as an 80's Yakuza Film," a montage of AI-generated and animated clips of Harry Potter characters depicted as characters from a 1980s yakuza film. The video (shown below) received over 1.1 million views in eleven months.



Spread

On January 25th and February 3rd, YouTube[2][3] channels Suburban Garden and JoyTool posted AI videos "Harry Potter as a 90s Anime" and "Harry Potter, but in Soviet Russia" which received over 742,000 views and 1.2 million views in ten months, respectively (shown below, left and right).



On March 15th, 2023, demonflyingfox posted the video "Harry Potter by Balenciaga," which received over 11 million views on YouTube[4] and also started the Balenciaga AI Videos trend (shown below).



Harry Potter remained a recurring subject of viral AI videos through 2023 as users put the characters from the film into various settings: for example, on April 18th, YouTube[5] channel Fantasy Images posted a video titled "Harry Spotter – The boy who lifted" which received over 5.7 million views in eight months (shown below, left). On September 10th, demonflying fox posted a video that gained over 952,000 views on YouTube[6] in three months (shown below, right).
