Humanity has Declined Opening Parodies is a series of parody videos for the opening sequence of the Japanese anime television series Humanity Has Declined .

Origin

The anime Humanity Has Declined aired from July to September in 2012, which featured the song "Real World" by the Japanese pop rock band nano.RIPE^[1] in the show's opening sequence (shown below).

The opening features several faeries performing a signature dance often associated with anime characters in shows by director Seiji Kish,^[2] who including similar dances in opening credits for his previous works My Bride is a Mermaid^[3] and Galaxy Angel Rune.^[4] The latter inspired a fad called Pappara Dance on both Futaba Channel (2chan) and Nico Nico Douga (NND) in 2006-2008.

Spread

The dance was subsequently named the "Declination Dance" (Japanese: 衰退ダンス, Suitai Dance) by viewers and was given the Shift-JIS art "(」・ワ・)」(⊃・ワ・)⊃" in the same manner as (」・ω・)」Uhh!(／・ω・)／Nya! and （σ回ω・）σ←↖↑↗→↘↓↙←↖↑↗ (Rikka's Finger Spin). As of August 2014, more than 100 parody videos and illustrations were uploaded to Nico Nico Douga^[5], Nico Nico Seiga^[6] and Pixiv.^[7]

In addition, an Indian movie dance remix video featuring dancing Indian actors from a 2004 movie Shankar Dada M.B.B.S.^[8] was viewed over one million times within the first month. The dance in this video titled "Indians Has Prospered" was given the nickname "Prosperity Dance" (繁栄ダンス, Hanei Dance), and has inspired its own parodies and tributes.^[9]
