#iPhoneシャワー (English: iPhone Shower) refers to a hashtag that grew popular on Japanese Twitter after voice actress Moeka Koizumi took her iPhone into the shower in order to clean it. The moment inspired Twitter users to create fan art in which various characters who have been voiced by Koizumi do the same thing.

Origin

On February 7th, 2021, Japanese voice actress Moeka Koizumi uploaded a picture of herself telling her followers that her camera had been taking blurry pictures from her Twitter.^[1] The tweet received more than 6,400 likes and 1,100 retweets (shown below, left). On the same day, she uploaded another photo asking how to fix her phone.^[2] Japanese voice actress Hinata Satō asked why her camera phone was blurry, to which Koizumi answered "I've showered my phone." The tweet received more than 6,000 likes and 1,600 retweets (shown below, right).

Spread

Later that day, the hashtag #iPhoneシャワー trended in Japan with 2,397 tweets^[3] (shown below, left), and became a top 9 in the worldwide with more than 29,600 tweets^[4] (shown below, right).

The hashtag spread as Japanese Twitter users created fan art about Koizumi's blunder. For example on February 7th, 2021, Twitter user @kou7303^[5] uploaded fan art of Moeka showering her phone. The tweet received more than 5,000 likes and 1,500 retweets (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter user @s_sho_mkrn^[6] uploaded fan art of Shioriko Mifune from Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, which is voiced by Koizumi, showering her phone, receiving 979 likes and 254 retweets (shown below, center). Twitter user @_YuU707_^[7] uploaded fan art of Shioriko Mifune, Nana Daiba from Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight, and Yuka Jennifer Sasago from D4DJ showering their phones at the same time. The tweet received more than 2.100 likes and 859 retweets (shown below, right).

The next month, during a talk segment on day 2 of the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Shuffle Festival when the group began to plug their merchandise, Koizumi was handed a phone pouch (possibly on purpose), after which iPhone Shower was brought up by fellow voice actress and club member Akari Kitō, who teased Koizumi about the incident. This caused Koizumi to become flustered (shown below, left), drew reactions from the crowd and the other club members, and prompted more fan art from Twitter users such as user @skaharumi^[8] (shown below, center left) and user @Vcream_unknow^[9] (shown below, center right). Later, during the encore chant, live tweets from fans would scroll across the screen, some of which mentioned iPhone Shower (shown below, right).

Since then, iPhone Shower has been brought up multiple times. One such time was in early September 2021 when Koizumi was questioned about it on the talk show Ōishi Masayoshi to Suzuki Airi no Anison Kamikyoku desho de Show!, which resulted in bewilderment from the hosts.^[10] On December 9th, 2021, iPhone Shower was mentioned during a yearly recap on Maeda Kouryaku, the Niconico webshow of fellow voice actress and Nijigasaki member Kaori Maeda. This prompted the topic to return to Japan's Twitter trends, to the dismay of Koizumi.^[11][12] It was brought up again on January 13th, 2021, again on Maeda Kouryaku, this time causing it to trend in Japan with 5,832 tweets (shown below), again to Koizumi's dismay.^[13] That same day, an article regarding the initial incident was published by Apple Insider.^[14]
