"It's In Your Blood / That's Racist" refers to a scene from Community in which Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale) attempts to get Troy (Donald Glover) to play football for the college's team. Troy was a football player in high school, and Jeff attempts to convince him to play by saying, "It's in your blood," to which Troy says, "That's racist." The two have a back-and-forth with Troy calling each of Jeff's pitches racist until Jeff turns it around on Troy and catches him saying something racist. The clip has been edited in image macros and memes online in the years since the scene aired in 2009.

Origin

In the season 1, episode 6 episode of Community, titled "Football, Feminism and You," which aired October 22nd, 2009,^[1] Jeff attempts to convince former football player Troy to play for the college team. Jeff says football is in Troy's blood, causing Troy to say "that's racist." The two have a back-and-forth with Troy calling each of Jeff's pitches racist until Jeff turns it around on Troy and catches him saying something racist (shown below).

Over the following years, the scene was regularly discussed and reposted in conversations about the show. On June 18th, 2016, Redditor otisthetowndrunk posted an image macro of the scene in /r/funny,^[3] gaining over 13,000 points in eight years (shown below).

The scene has also been reposted with various captions on TikTok. For example, on February 7th, 2023, @primevideoca^[4] posted the video with the caption "Dodging cancel culture be like," gaining over 1,200 likes in one year (shown below, left). On March 6th, user @sibm_monstar^[5] posted an animation using the scene's audio and characters from Monster High, gaining over 190,000 likes in the same time frame (shown below, right).

The scene has also been edited to replace the various keywords. For example, on March 27th, 2024, Redditor gay_KL posted an edit referencing a discussion on the Trash Taste podcast to /r/TrashTaste,^[6] gaining over 1,700 points in one week (shown below).
