Jeff In HR Might Be an Anteater refers to a series of memes based on a viral Twitter / X post about an HR worker who is suspected to be an anteater by a coworker, who suggests they order ants for lunch in order to see Jeff's reaction and determine whether or not he's an anteater. The post was made in 2015 by X user @bobvulfov and garnered viral spread over the following years, inspiring memes that reference the post and expand on the possible situations in which he might show himself to be an anteater.

Origin

On March 7th, 2015, X[1] user @bobvulfov made a text post imagining a situation where an employee at an office suspects that the HR worker, Jeff, is an anteater. The worker suggests they order ants for lunch to see how Jeff responds. The post gained over 12,000 likes and 5,600 reposts in 10 years.


A post by Twitter user @bobvulfov. The tweet reads, "BOSS: lunch on me today. any ideas? "pizza" "sushi" ME: *suspicious that jeff in HR is an anteater* ants? [i stare at jeff for his reaction]."

Spread

The post went viral through reposts over the following years. On November 18th, 2019, u/marroou posted a screenshot of the post to /r/oddlyspecific,[2] garnering over 25,000 upvotes in six years. On May 23rd, 2020, Tumblr[3] user dankmemeuniversity posted it, garnering over 165,000 notes in five years. The post was commented on several times by other Tumblr users over the following months, expanding on the joke.

On November 23rd, 2023, Instagram[4] user trashcanpaul posted a meme referencing the post that attaches a reaction image to the bottom, meant to represent the employee staring at Jeff, garnering over 761,000 likes in just over a year.




On April 4th, 2024, Redditor u/prozakattack posted about the meme to the subreddit /r/ExplainTheJoke,[5] garnering over 1,200 upvotes in a year.

On March 24th, 2025, Redditor u/Mattellica_matt posted a meme about Jeff eating ants to the subreddit /r/PeterExplainstheJoke,[6] garnering over 5,000 upvotes in under 24 hours.


A meme reading, "Jeff from HR forcing me to watch him eat ants (I was right)." The meme references other memes about an HR worker named Jeff suspected to be an anteater.
