About

JENOVA Remixes features a series of remixes and videos from the J-E-N-O-V-A song in Square's 1997 game Final Fantasy VII.[1] Since 2008, the song has been occasionally used for MAD videos on Nico Nico Douga (NND) and YouTube Poop Music Videos (YTPMVs) on YouTube.

Origin

J-E-N-O-V-A is written by the Japanese video game composer Nobuo Uematsu.[2] This song was a battle theme that played when fighting one of the game's major antagonists, Jenova, a parasitic alien life-form. Meanwhile, probablly the first instance using this song in video remixes was a MAD video posted to NND in February 23rd, 2008.[3] This video entitled "C-R-A-S-H-E-R" was also one of derivatives of Angry German Kid. This video was quickly reuploaded to YouTube.

Spread

The song, like Gourmet Race from the Kirby series, has an easily exploitable rhythm, and thus is easy to make videos of the song using video clips and sound bytes. This originated from NND[4] but has now spread to YouTube. A recurring theme with this meme is mimicing the original song's title, J-E-N-O-V-A, into the name of the remix.

The remixes mainly follow the same pattern as YouTube Poops, taking sound and footage from video games, infomecials, anime, and viral videos and arranging / remixing it so it follows the tune of the song.

Notable Examples
