Jumping Rob is a photoshop meme featuring the actor Robert Pattinson, known for his role as Edward in the fantasy film series Twilight, jumping off of a dock while dressed in a pair of boxer briefs. The meme involves superimposing a cutout of Pattinson's body into other base images of various settings and contexts.

Origin

The entertainment news blog US Weekly[6] published a post titled "Rob Pattinson Swims in Underwear With Bikini-Clad Kristen Stewart" on December 2nd, 2010, featuring a photograph of Pattinson in mid-air while jumping off a dock (shown below, left). The "Fuck Yeah Jumping Rob" Tumblr[1] blog was launched on November 14th, with its first post featuring Strutting Leo edited into the frame of the Pattinson photo (shown below, right).

On November 16th, the Internet news blog Urlesque[2] published a post titled "Twilight's Robert Pattinson Stars in Jumping Rob Meme," featuring several notable examples from the series. The same day, MSNBC[4] published an article by staff writer Helen A.S. Popkin titled "Jumping Rob is Sad Keanu for Fall," which referenced a photoshop meme involving the actor Keanu Reeves. On November 23rd, 2010, YouTuber MrsRpattz13 uploaded a video titled "Jumping Rob," featuring a slideshow of the photoshopped images (shown below, left). On April 5th, 2011, MTV[3] published an interview with Pattinson, in which he admitted he found the meme "really funny" (shown below, right).



On August 11th, 2011, the Internet humor site Smosh[5] published a "best of" compilation of Jumping Rob examples. On February 26th, 2012, 9gag[8] user nylfn submitted several examples in a post titled "Jumping Rob Vol. 1," which received over 43,553 up votes, 4,300 Facebook shares and 225 comments within eight months. On May 4th, a Facebook[7] page for "Jumping Rob" was created, which accumulated only 20 likes within the next six months. On November 14th, YouTuber letterstotwilight uploaded a video in which a group of bloggers surprise Pattinson with a large Jumping Rob cardboard cutout at the premiere of the film Twilight: Breaking Dawn (shown below).
