About

Just Dawned on Me Now how Incredibly Creepy It Is that The X Flag Is Comprised of Colors Predominantly Associated with Y is a phrasal template popularized on Twitter in November 2022 in response to a user criticizing the transgender pride flag for consisting of, in their opinion, colors associated with children. The phrase spread across Twitter that month as a copypasta where "X" and "Y" are replaced with ironic comparisons between flags and unrelated properties.

Origin

On November 1st, 2022, Twitter[1] user @LoFiRepublican posted, "Just dawned on me how incredibly creepy and weird it is that the transgender flag is comprised of colors predominantly associated with babies/children," garnering over 5,300 likes and 1,200 quote-tweets in two days (shown below).

Lo-fi Republican @LoFiRepublican ... Just dawned on me how incredibly creepy and weird it is that the transgender flag is comprised of colors predominantly associated with babies/children 12:57 PM - Nov 1, 2022 - Twitter for Android

The tweet was largely criticized through quote-tweets, usually in tweets rephrasing the original sentiment. For example, on the day it was posted (November 1st), Twitter[2] user @Vandaall wrote, "Just dawned on me how incredibly creepy and weird it is that you're supposed to wipe after you go poopy." Twitter[3] user @bIobcookie wrote, "just dawned on me how incredibly creepy and weird it is that your pfp has a child character in it from a video game made for children," referencing the user's Diddy Kong profile picture. Twitter[4] user @MistressSpark then posted, "Just dawned on me how incredibly creepy and weird it is that the American flag is comprised of colors predominantly associated with imperialism/colonialism," offering the first true parody of the original tweet.

Spread

On November 1st, 2022, Twitter[5] user @nescartridges quote-tweeted the post, writing, "yes because they represent the colors most commonly associated with binary gender (blue for boy pink for girl), and the white represents non-binary/genderfluid people. Weirdly ive seen republicans bring up children way more than ive ever seen any trans person do so," garnering over 2,500 likes in a day (shown below, left). OP responded by saying he doesn't know "any grown men who strongly associate with the color blue, same goes for most women and pink nowadays," writing that grown men should strongly identify with "burnt orange" (shown below, right).
