The original meme is a part of many Pubert image macros, using the image of the monkey, which were shared by monkey-centric Instagram meme pages in 2022. The Kid Named Pubert meme attracted increased attention in May 2025, when Twitter / X user twinsoul (@twin_presence) posted a video, showing that the Kid Named Pubert meme was the only thing that could repair her boyfriend's phone screen. The odd iPhone repair method and apparent glitch went viral, inspiring posts about the Kid Named Pubert meme fixing other issues.

Origin

The Kid Named Pubert meme stems from a series of image macros shared by the Instagram account @monkeyposted in 2022 and 2023. The admin shared the first Pubert meme to Instagram^[1] on October 16th, 2022, gaining over 3,500 likes in three years.

A month later, on November 22nd, Instagram^[2] user @monkeyposted posted the Kid Named Pubert meme, which followed the Kid Named Finger format. The top caption had a teacher saying, "Alright class, today we are going [to] finger paint," with the Kid Named Pubert meme in the bottom half. Over three years, the post received roughly 2,800 likes (shown below).

The Kid Named Pubert meme spread to Reddit^[5] later on November 22nd, 2022.

Heading into 2023, Instagram^[6] user @monkeyposted received viral engagement for other Pubert posts, like one shared on May 23rd, showing Pubert photoshopped across a table with Mexican food, gaining over 280,000 likes in two years (shown below).

Fixing Phone Screen Video

On May 28th, 2025, X^[3] user @twin_presence tweeted, "Kid Named Pubert is the only thing that repairs my boyfriend's phone screen." The video showed her boyfriend's phone, which had pixel damage, but the pixels seemingly repaired once the Kid Named Pubert meme was viewed in the iPhone's camera roll. In a day, the tweet received over 7.4 million views and 357,000 likes (shown below).

In a follow-up quote-tweet on May 28th, X^[4] user @twin_presence attached a new video, showing that her boyfriend's phone was not affected by other images but instantly repaired once the Kid Named Pubert meme was on screen. The video received over 29,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Later on May 28th, 2025, the original tweet was reposted by Redditor Subject-Property-343 to the /r/interestingasfuck^[7] subreddit, gaining over 2,100 upvotes in a day.

On both Reddit and X, users levied theories as to why the Kid Named Pubert meme fixed the man's phone screen as it garnered virality.

For instance, X^[8] user @finnsawyer_ replied on May 28th, saying, "It’s because of the black borders around the image. When I had the issue, for some reason, whenever there was a significant amount of black displayed on the screen, it would fix itself, but then revert back to broken when it was a bright colour" (shown below).

Similarly, Redditors^[9] Medical_Amount3007 and Pacifica24 commented on the /r/interestingasfuck post, claiming that it "looks more like the light is dimming" (shown below).
