About
Looks Like A Normal Teen's Bedroom, Right? refers to a post by St. Louis reporter and TV anchor Paige Husley that showcased a staged teenager's bedroom that was created for a news segment on checking a teenager's room for signs of drug use. The tweet was widely mocked online for what people saw as a failed attempt to create a moral panic, while others poked fun at the various details meant to indicate it was the room of a drug-using teen.
Origin
On June 24th, 2021, St. Louis reporter and TV anchor Paige Husley[1] posted a picture of a staged, hypothetical teenager's bedroom, along with the caption, "Looks like a normal teen’s bedroom, right? Think again. Coming up on @KMOV, we’ll show you what parents should be looking for so they can identify signs of drug use. I was shocked at what I found in this room!!! #stl #n4tm" (shown below).
Spread
Twitter users were quick to poke fun at Husley's tweet, particularly the details included in the room meant to indicate drug use. For example, user @lisasaurstomp[2] pointed to what appeared to be a 3-hole punch on the bed of the room, gaining over 2,400 likes (shown below, left). Many users pointed to a sign in the "teen's" room that read "Mile 420" as being very on-the-nose, such as user @KavaScott,[3] who joked, "Mile 420, This actually looks like a porn set, not the bedroom of a teenager all hopped up on the Devil’s Lettuce Leafy green!" (shown below, right).
Other users used Husley's original tweet as a copypasta with which to pair humorous images. For example, user @masonpelt[4] tweeted, "It looks like a normal teens bedroom? Wrong! It's a 24-hour diner. At 8:00 we help you to uncover the signs that your child is operating at 24 hour diner out of their bed" (shown below, left). User @studiesincrap[5] reposted Husley's picture but showed a painting of an opium den, gaining over 30 retweets and 286 likes (shown below, right).
