About

Meaf is a slang term derived from a humorous misreading of the commonly used term "Me AF," with "AF" acting as an abbreviation of "as fuck." The term seemingly arose following observations that, due to their lack of spacing, tags containing the "me af" slang term can be read as "meaf" (pronounced as "meef"). While the slang term dates back to at least early 2015, it saw a significant resurgence of interest and usage online in mid-2026, particularly on TikTok.

Origin

The term "meaf" emerged from the intersection of internet slang and hashtag formatting conventions.

The phrase "as fuck" has been in use in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) since the late '80s, with the earliest and most widely reported usage of the phrase "as fuck" coming from the rap song "Straight Outta Compton" by N.W.A.

Released as the album's first single on July 10th, 1988, the song features the lyrics, "So when I'm in your neighborhood, you better duck / Coz Ice Cube is crazy as fuck / As I leave, believe I'm stompin / But when I come back, boy, I'm comin straight outta Compton."[1]

As the abbreviation became common on social media, users frequently employed the phrase "me af" to express relatability.

Hashtags are typically written without spaces because social media platforms and other online systems use spaces to mark the end of a tag. As a result, a hashtag must be formatted as a continuous string of characters following the hash symbol (#) in order to be recognized, indexed and linked by the platform.[2]

Though the observation cannot be traced to one particular user, many internet users likely noticed "#meaf" in various video tags, leading to the term's humorous reinterpretation as a standalone slang word and meme.

The exact first use of "meaf" online is unknown, however, it was first added to Urban Dictionary[6] by user Synteks on March 29th, 2015, defined as "Me as fuck," alongside the example, "Dude, why do you care if I like to karate chop people in the throat after I make them laugh to then choke them.. I'm meaf!"
