Metro Boomin' Make It Boom is a producer tag notably used in the Metro Boomin' produced song "Get to You" by A Boogie wit da Hoodie. The song was released in 2017 and the tag became the subject of memes as early as January 2021 on TikTok, sparking a trend where users lip dub the tag with their faces close to the camera using a fisheye lens. The tag continued to inspire memes on TikTok and YouTube over the following years.

Origin

On September 29th, 2017, rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie released the song "Get To You," produced by Metro Boomin', on YouTube[1] (shown below). The song begins with an instrumental, followed by the producer tag, "Metro Boomin' make it boom."



On January 2nd, 2021, TikToker[2] @issajanis posted a video using a fisheye lens where he lip dubs to the producer tag, garnering over 500,000 views in three years (shown below). The audio has since been removed from the video. This is the earliest known example of the trend.

Spread

The producer tag continued to spread on TikTok and YouTube over the following years as the subject of memes. On TikTok,[3][4] users continued to post fisheye lip dub videos to the tag throughout 2021, although the sound has been removed from many of these. On January 14th, 2021, YouTuber[5] Wabusiba posted a meme setting the tag to a clip from SpongeBob SquarePants, garnering over a million views in three years (shown below).



On January 16th, TikToker[6] @ohthatsnate4 posted a video where he sings the producer tag using a fisheye lens, garnering over 33 million views in three years (shown below).

On October 25th, YouTuber[7] go piss girl posted a video taken from their Ring doorbell in which several kids yell the tag into the camera, garnering over 1.3 million views in three years (shown below, left). On May 6th, 2023, YouTuber[8] Blandcombo posted an edit of a Kung Fu Panda scene using the tag, garnering over 4 million views in a year (shown below, right).



On April 6th, 2024, YouTuber[9] BananaResort posted a version of the meme using footage from the video game The Binding of Isaac, garnering over 288,000 views in two weeks (shown below).
