Origin

On November 14th, 2024, during a final face-off before the influencer boxing fight between retired professional heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson and YouTuber and amateur boxer Jake Paul, Tyson slapped Paul, supposedly in response to Paul stepping on his shoes. Immediately following the incident, multiple social media accounts posted videos of the altercation. One upload, made by Netflix's official X^[1] account, garnered over 3,100 reposts and 18,000 likes in two hours (shown below).

Several minutes after the incident, the X^[2] account @HappyPunch posted a close-up image of Tyson and Paul mid-slap, with the photograph (shown below) gaining over 10,000 reposts and 108,000 likes in one day.

Both the video and the photograph saw viral spread online on November 14th and 15th, 2024, as they were reposted by multiple accounts on X, Instagram, TikTok and other social media, often paired with humorous captions.

Notably, on November 15th, 2024, tweleb and X user @kirawontmiss posted the photograph, with the post (shown below) gaining over 15,000 reposts and 273,000 likes on X^[3] in one day.

Also on November 15th, X^[4] user @deeore5 posted a cropped version of the photograph showing Jake Paul's face deformed by the slap, commenting, "turned into a different human 😭." The post (shown below) received over 130 reposts and 7,700 likes in one day.
