Origin

On June 18th, 2021, @Arthur_AEIO[1] posted a videoof Ayanami Rei, a character from the 90's anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, narrating her life with text-to-speech narration. The video uses the Rei Plush. [2] The video reached 12,000 likes in one year and was shared across multiple channels on social media. The video was uploaded to YouTube by user Diorge on July 1st, 2021.[3] It reached 36,000 views and 3,000 likes in a year.

The same video was also uploaded on TikTok[4] on July 28th, 2021, by @sabo_mera, gaining over 8,000 views in a year. Two months after the first meme was posted to iFunny, TikToker @kyedrop uploaded the audio of the original video to TikTok,[5] inspiring others to use the sound. As of July 28th, 2022, there are 533 videos that use the sound on the platform. Most of the videos using the sound show cats, celebrities and cartoon characters in the videos. For example, on September 2nd, 2021, TikToker @uvinharooxa[6] posted a video using the sound with a Jack Russell terrier, gaining over 901,000 views and 191,000 likes in 9 months (shown below).

On July 17th, 2022, TikToker @franpoxd posted an example using images of Bingus and Big Floppa. The post received 3.2 million views and 759,000 likes in two weeks.
