Overview

Ninja's Times Square Floss Fail refers to a failed attempt by Mixer streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins to get attendees of the Times Square New Year's Eve celebration in New York to perform the floss dance. Additionally, a captioned image of Ninja saying "I'm not seeing enough movement" gained popularity as an image macro.

Background

On October 27th, 2018, Twitch streamer Ninja announced [1] that on December 31st, 2018, he would be hosting a 12-hour NYE celebration stream at the Times Square in New York. The event was heavily advertised on Twitch, with ads for the upcoming stream showing up on the main page and various channels.[2]

On December 31st, during the stream, Ninja made an attempt to get one million people to perform floss dance at the same time.[3] While several people joined the dance, the majority of the event attendees ignored the request.

Notable Developments

On December 31st, Redditor[4] Curdoz uploaded the fragment of the stream to /r/cringe subreddit. The post received over 20,300 upvotes and 1,500 comments in nine days. On the same day, Ninja acknowledged the mishap in a tweet.[5]

Ninja's failed attempt to get the crowd to dance was covered by several media outlets, including Dexerto[7], Comicbook[8] and Junkee[9].

I'm Not Seeing Enough Movement

On January 11th, 2019, Redditor[10] aaaatlas uploaded a captioned image from the stream to /r/pewdiepiesubmissions subreddit. The post gained over 33,800 upvotes in 12 hours.
