Parent Names Are Blue on Wikipedia is an indirect way of calling out a celebrity such as a musician or an actor as an industry plant or a nepo baby by implying that their parents are successful and famous enough to have their own Wikipedia pages. The catchphrase emerged online in the early 2020s, appearing in various discourse, memes and other posts.

Origin

On April 29th, 2021, X[1] user @yelitabonitaaaa tweeted a photograph of actor Daniel Kaluuya forcing a smile, writing, "'Started from the bottom' but ur parents names on Wikipedia are blue." The post indirectly called out industry plants in the music industry by implying that their success was due to money and power from their parents, who are famous enough to have their own Wikipedia pages. The post received over 27,100 reposts and 291,600 likes in two years (shown below).

Spread

The expression saw limited spread online in the following months. On July 28th, 2021, X[2] user @MattPostSaysHi used it to caption a tweet about the film The Rightway, written by Stephen King's son, directed by Steven Spielberg's daughter and starting Sean Penn's son. The post (shown below, left) received over 70 reposts and 1,200 likes in two years.

On February 19th, 2022, X[3] user @jacksonbunz posted a Never Ask a Woman Her Age meme that used the expression and gained over 19,400 reposts and 247,000 likes in two years (shown below, right).

Following the viral spread of the post online, the expression achieved more prominence, being used as a part of Never Ask a Woman Her Age memes, other meme formats and independently to call out industry plants and children of rich parents. Don't Google reverse psychology memes using the phrase, for example about actor Woody Harrelson, were also circulated.

Tbh, that's not just media. It's easier to get a job in most industries if your parents are already there, especially if they're successful there. If you want to be a lawyer, it helps to have parents who are lawyers. If you want to be an accountant, it helps to have accountant parents.

Whatever it is, from a young age you've got a role model to make you aware that that is a path open to you, and who can teach you how to do it well. They also can help you get your foot in the door with at least an entry level job. It's never a guarantee you'll do it or be successful at it, but the chances go up significantly.
