DarkViperAu is the online handle of Twitch streamer and speedrunner Matthew Judge who is best known for his Grand Theft Auto V speedruns and clips of his rants.

Online History

On October 31st, 2012, DarkViperAU launched his YouTube[1] channel and then created his Twitch[2][3] channel on February 22nd, 2014. Mainly streaming Grand Theft Auto V after its PC release on April 14th, 2015, and focusing on speedrunning the game. DarkViperAU accumulated over 3,100 Twitch followers by January 2016, 100,000 followers by December 2018 and over 420,000 followers by March 2021.

On January 30th, 2016, DarkViperAU uploaded the first YouTube[4] video currently available on his channel, a world-record speedrun of the "Masks" mission in Grand Theft Auto V (shown below, left). He started regularly uploading videos to YouTube with "How the Speedrun Ended" series on December 31st, 2018,[5] shortly after reaching over 100,000 followers on Twitch (first regular video shown below, right).

On May 30th, 2018, DarkViperAU set a world record for Any% category for Grand Theft Auto V.[6]

As of March 2021, DarkViperAU accumulated over 627,000 subscribers on YouTube. His second channel, DarkViperAU Clips[7] where DarkViperAU posts short clips of humorous, unlucky or otherwise memorable moments from his speedruns, was launched on October 24th, 2020, and garnered over 327,000 subscribers in five months. On TikTok,[17] Twitter[18] and Instagram,[19] DarkViperAU has over 257,000, 70,800 and 29,800 followers, respectively.

As of March 10th, 2021, DarkViperAU holds the fourth-best times for Any% – No Mission Skips and 100% – No Mission Skips categories in Grand Theft Auto V and fifth-best time for Any% – Mission Skips category.[20]

Reputation

In addition to Grand Theft Auto videos, DarkViperAU is also known for his "Speedrunner Rambles" series in which he provides his opinion on various issues and trending events (examples shown below, left and right). The series started on February 8th, 2019, with over 200 episodes uploaded as of March 2021.[8]

DarkViperAU is also known for letting his facial hair grow for extended periods of time before cutting it and is often referred to as "Matto" by his viewers.

Controversies

FriendlyBaron Feud

In August 2019, DarkViperAU[9][10][11] posted several rant videos about fellow Grand Theft Auto V speedrunner FriendlyBaron after the latter criticized the former during his livestream.

Dream Speedrun Cheating Allegations

In December 2020, as the controversy revolving around speedrun cheating allegations against Minecraft YouTuber Dream unfolded, DarkViperAU posted a total of five videos about the controversy, including an interview with Dream (shown below, right) that received over 780,000 views in three months.[12][13]

Apollo Legend Suicide

On December 30th, speedrunner Apollo Legend mentioned speedrunners DarkViperAU and EZScape in his suicide note,[14] blaming them for "giving him the final push."

On December 31st, 2020, DarkViperAU posted[15] a video in which he explained the reason why he was mentioned in the suicide note (shown below). The video, originally unlisted, was later made public.

You Disingenuous Dense Motherfucker

"You Disingenuous Dense Motherfucker" is a memorable insult spoken by DarkViperAU to YouTuber The Quartering in a video responding to criticism from him. The clip of DarkViperAU saying the phrase received significant attention online and became the subject of numerous remixes and edits in late 2020 and early 2021. The phrase is an extension of the insult You Dense Motherfucker, which first became popular online in 2009.
