Donté Colley is a dancer known for a series of inspirational dance videos in which Colley moves around positive statements that have been superimposed into the image.

Online History

On September 17th, 2015, Colley posted his first Instagram [1] image. The post received more than 1,800 likes in less than four years. Two months later, on December 14th, he posted his first dance video, which garnered more than 1,900 likes and 20,000 views (shown below).

Two years later, on October 17th, 2017, Colley posted one his earliest special effects-based video, a parody of the video games The Sims. The post received more than 1,400 likes and 19,000 views in two years (shown below).

On November 15th, Colley posted a parody of the television series That's So Raven. Within two years, the post received more than 5,000 likes and 46,000 views (shown below).

Inspirational Videos

On December 30th, 2018, Colley posted the earliest known inspirational dance videos, which he would become known for. The video features him dancing around various images of text and emojis. The post received more than 185,000 likes and 1 million views (shown below).

On March 6th, 2019, he posted one of his most popular videos in which he dances around the words "Get Your Shine on Today." The post received more than 168,000 likes and 1.2 million views (shown below).

Reputation

Colley's dance videos were covered by numerous outlets, appearing in news publications in the United States and Canada, including BuzzFeed,[2] Good Morning America,[3] Fashion,[4] PopSugar,[5] TIME[6] magazine and more.

On January 22nd, 2019, Colley's videos appeared on Good Morning America (shown below).



Criticism

Parody

On April 27th, 2019, comedy producer Sam Reich tweeted a parody of Colley's inspirational dance videos. In the clip, Reich urges viewers to aim for the middle and strive for meidocrity. The post received more than 49,000 retweets, 165,000 likes and 2.5 million views (shown below).
