About
NCHProductions is the online pseudonym of a Singaporean animator known mostly for his short animations poking fun at popular video games, including (but not restricted to) the Monster Hunter series, the Pokémon series, Undertale and Among Us. Since its creation in late 2006, the NCHProductions YouTube channel has garnered 896k subscribers and a total of 219 millions of views as of August 2021.
Online History
The NCHProductions YouTube channel was created on November 14th, 2006. Five days later, a first animation titled "WE LIVE IN SINGAPURA" was released and provided a humorous account of the history of Singapore while parodying Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. This first video became popular among Singaporean online users and has garnered 1.8 million views since its release.
NCHProductions subsequently made various animations about online culture and video games. In particular, he created a few clips about the pre-2010 4chan culture (shown below, first row), and a few animations on Nintendo games (second row). The amount of views garnered by such videos range from a bit more than 100k views (for "pokemon hunter", bottom left) to more than one million (for "4chan city", top left).
On April 13th, 2013, NCHProductions started a short series of videos on the Monster Hunter series to celebrate the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U. The first animation (shown below, first row), titled Plate runs, pokes fun at a popular farming technique fans used (and still use) to collect a rare loot required to craft the best equipment, and has been viewed a bit more than 2 million times since its release as of August 2021 (shown below).
Subsequent animations would continue to make fun of the concept and absurdities of the Monster Hunter series, and collected respectively 1.5 and 1 million views (shown below).
NCHProductions continued making Monster Hunter videos with the release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS) in Spring 2015 as well as subsequent Monster Hunter games. Due to the popularity of these animations, some of which gained millions of views, NCHProductions quickly became one of the most popular content creators among the growing Monster Hunter fandom, and his channel crossed the 50k subscriber milestone in June 2015.[1]
Other Works
Despite often being associated with the Monster Hunter series by viewers, NCHProductions' work is quite varied and provides animations on many other specific video games or franchises, with some of them being amongst his most popular videos. In particular, the channel includes several animation works trying to re-imagine the physical transformations of well-known video game characters. These clips are especially popular: a video depicting the transformation of Bowser into Bowsette (shown below, top left) has garnered 12 million views since its release on October 17th, 2018, while two similar videos about Undertale (shown below, bottom left) and Among Us (bottom right) garnered 5.7 and 4.3 million views as of August 2021, respectively, since Christmas 2015 and late October 2020. These animations are sometimes accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video (example shown below, top right) detailing how some specific shots have been animated.
The humor displayed by the animations usually involves visual puns, absurd takes on in-game concepts and multiple references to animation classics (such as Tom and Jerry or SpongeBob SquarePants) or film classics. Many of these appear in his Pokémon moves series. This series has been compiled into a single video in late June 2021 and has been viewed more than 3.7 million times as of late August 2021 (shown below, top left). Memes and online culture are also well represented; a video tribute to /v/ (below, top right), which remakes an earlier work, reached a total of 3.3 million views since its release on August 9th, 2017. The channel also releases from time to time more conceptual works (shown below, bottom row). NCHProductions also works with other content creators for voiceovers, and has assistant animators to complete some skits and animations (bottom right video being entirely animated by his assistant NyangTofu).
Finally, it should be noted that NCHProductions is also active on DeviantArt since 2004 as NCH85, where his bio reveals the origin of his pseudonym (NCH stands for "No Creative Human").[2] For the past years, NCHProductions has used his DeviantArt page to provide GIFs derivated from his animations and unique fanarts featuring unused work or reusing existing assets. The Community tab of his YouTube channel is also used for similar purposes and tends to be more active nowadays.[3] Several examples of these additional works are shown below.
