Padre Marcelo Rossi is a Brazilian priest known for his TV broadcasts of masses and songs. He obtained more significant notoriety online after a video surfaced of him being pushed off a stage by a woman in 2019. The priest also became the subject of memes for his body shape being similar to bodybuilders.
History
Padre Marcelo Rossi[1] is a Brazilian priest born on May 20th, 1967. Since 2001, the Catholic priest has presented the Santa Missa em Seu Lar live mass, broadcast by Rede Globo.[2] He joined YouTube[3] on February 13th, 2017 and has accumulated 3 million followers on the platform as of March 2023.
Online Presence
On July 14th, 2019, the priest became a trending topic on the internet after a woman invaded by the alter and pushed[4] him off stage during a mass. Despite the fall, the priest returned to the stage minutes later and continued his broadcast. The moment he was pushed was broadcast on TV and shared on the internet shortly after by @walteroliveira6084 on YouTube.[5] The video garnered 413,000 views and 2,100 likes in four years (seen below).
The priest's fall became an exploitable meme, being edited in different situations. For instance, on July 15th, 2019, YouTube[6] user @666Noite uploaded a remix of Padre Marcelo falling while the song "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" plays in the background. The video received 1,500 views and 22 likes in four years (seen below).
Marcelo Horse
On March 30th, 2021, Padre Marcelo, who is a Physical Education Studies graduate,[7] surprised the internet in new pictures, appearing more muscular in some. His new, fitter look became a viral image on Twitter.[8] For example, user @kekehumilde posted a before and after of Padre Marcelo with the caption in Portuguese, "even Padre Marcelo Rossi got in shape and I didn't, that's fucked up." The post received 3,510 likes and 772 retweets in two years (seen below).
Padre Marcelo was nicknamed "Marcelo Horse" on March 2023, after a video of the priest walking at a mall went viral for his bulky physique. Twitter[8] user @pobremocalatina posted a parody video with the music "Eye of The Tiger" by Survivor. The post garnered 15,000 views and 300 likes in three days (seen below).
