About
Quan Millz is the pen name of Colby Durden, an urban fiction writer known for his romance novels. Millz published his first novel, Ran Off On The Plug Twice, in March 2017 and has published over 60 novels between then and 2024, with titles including My Psycho Baby Daddy, Old THOT Next Door, This Hoe Got Roaches In Her Crib and Addicted to the Abortion Clinic. Millz has gone viral numerous times throughout the late 2010s and 2020s for his book covers and titles, inspiring memes and videos about the author. He has also been the subject of conspiracy theories claiming he's a white man writing from a Black voice, although these theories are untrue.
History
According to Romance.io,[1] Quan Millz published his first novel, Ran Off On The Plug Twice: Episode 1, on March 31st, 2017. He purportedly published over 15 more books that year. In 2018, he published some of his most well-known books, including This Hoe Got Roaches In Her Crib on July 14th, 2018[2] (cover shown below).

Millz began to gain online notoriety that year. On July 20th, 2018, a Lipstick Alley[3] user started a thread about Millz titled "This Author Has The Most Ratchetest Romance Titles Your Ratchet Mind Can Imagine." On August 10th, Fabulize[4] published an interview with Millz and on August 13th, YouTuber[5] KevOnStage published a video reacting to several of Millz's books, garnering over 70,000 views in six years (shown below).
On September 13th, 2023, Wired[6] published a piece about Millz. On October 12th, NPR[7] published an interview piece on Millz.
Online Presence
Quan Millz is active on social media on his TikTok[8] and Instagram[9] pages @quanmillzbooks and Facebook[10] at Author Quan Millz. He self-publishes his books through Amazon.[11]
Virality
Millz first started gaining notoriety online in 2018 as his book covers were shared on social media, becoming increasingly viral throughout the 2020s. For example, on August 9th, 2018, X[12] user @TheGreatKingSIR posted four of his book covers, writing, "Whoevea this Quan Millz nigga is, he has to be stopped…..these are real ass books," garnering over 300 likes in six years.
On February 3rd, 2022, TikToker[13] @tujuana_monique posted a video reacting to his covers that gained over 2.1 million views in two years (shown below).

On July 10th, 2023, comedian Christina P. discussed Quan Millz with rapper Danny Brown during her YouTube[14] podcast, garnering over 94,000 views in seven months (shown below).
On July 13th, TikToker[15] @justdesean posted a video about Millz that gained over 2 million views in the same span of time (shown below, left). On February 2nd, 2024, TikToker[16] @_scoff.__ posted a meme about Millz that gained over 100,000 views in a week (shown below, right).

On February 7th, X[17] user @timmyutw513 posted a photo of himself holding Millz' book Old THOT Next Door, writing, "How could you not love the library," garnering over 50,000 likes in a day (shown below).

"Quan Millz Is White" Conspiracy Theories
Some people online have accused Quan Millz of being a white man despite his books focusing on exaggerated aspects of Black culture. For example, on August 4th, 2018, X[18] user @imannmilner posted, "I’m convinced 'Quan Millz' is some suburban white man. He’s a bestseller of these wild ass books but can’t be found anywhere stunting on us broke hoes? I don’t know. Suspicious." Millz has denied these theories in interviews, including interviews with Wired and NPR, where he calls it "one of the stupidest internet conspiracies known to man."
Personal Life
Quan Millz's real name is Colby Durden. In 2023, he was 39 years old. Millz grew up in Miami but is currently based out of Chicago.
