Pete Davidson Has Been Spotted With X, also known as Pete Davidson Is Now Dating X, refers to a phrasal template about Pete Davidson's habit of "Dating Up," directly inspired by his breakup with Kim Kardashian in 2022. The snowclone went viral on Twitter where meme creators photoshopped memetic characters like The Queen of England or Julia Fox, among others, captured by paparazzi walking with Davidson.

Precursor

Davidson joined SNL in 2014, however, the common, public perception of him dating multiple women "out of his league" didn't manifest en masse until his stint with former Nickelodeon star and singer Ariana Grande in mid-2018.^[1] This is when Big Dick Energy became a meme, predominantly based on the picture of Ariana Grande Licking a Lollipop while walking outside with Davidson (shown below, left). This aforementioned image macro would later inspire the "Pete Davidson Has Been Spotted With X" meme.

Other photos of Davidson walking with attractive women also became memetic content. For instance, on May 27th, 2019, Twitter^[2] user sistersome captioned an image of Davidson walking with actress Kate Beckinsale, "my mom picking me up at school because i threw up in the bathroom," earning roughly 123,300 likes in three years (shown below, right).

Origin

On October 30th, 2022, Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian were photographed together holding hands at an amusement park. This was shortly after Kardashian's divorce with Kanye West.

Building off of the publicity and speculation of the two possibly dating, as well as alluding to the already established cliché of Davidson "dating up," on November 2nd, 2021, Twtter^[3] user kateeeepp posted a tweet that read, "Pete Davidson has been spotted with Ms. Juicy Baby!👀😱," as in the star of Little Women: Atlanta. The tweet attached an image macro that photoshopped Ms. Juicy Baby walking with Davidson. Over the course of nine months, the tweet received roughly 64,500 likes (shown below).

Spread

Inspired by kateeeepp's tweet, more Twitter users offered their own iterations that referenced the Kim Kardashian drama. For instance, on November 3rd, 2022, Twitter^[4] user calimadu tweeted a photoshop of X Factor’s Mary Byrne in a car with Davidson, using the "Pete Davidson Has Been Spotted With X" phrasal template and earning roughly 6,100 likes in nine months (shown below, left). On November 4th, 2021, Twitter^[5] user TracybBeaker tweeted, "Omg Pete Davidson has been spotted with Elaine ‘The Pain’ Boyak … watch out Kim K !!! Xx," earning roughly 5,000 likes in the same time period (shown below, right).

The trend slowed down going into early 2022, however, in mid-2022, it was reported that Kim Kardashian and Davidson were breaking up. This inspired an influx of content using the "Pete Davidson Has Been Spotted With X" snowclone that centered on who Davidson could date after Kardashian.

This resurgence was inspired by a tweet from Twitter^[6] user whoresseini on August 6th, 2022, who photoshopped Davidson coming off of Kendall Roy from Succession's private jet. The tweet received roughly 27,800 likes in five days (shown below, left). More viral iterations followed. For instance, on August 9th, 2022, Twitter^[7] user DeMickyD tweeted a photoshop of Flame Atronach from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion with Davidson, earning roughly 17,200 likes in two days (shown below, right).
