Professionals Have Standards is a quote from a cinematic introducing the Sniper character from Team Fortress 2. It began seeing use as a reaction image on Reddit in late 2018 and early 2019.

Origin

On January 19th, 2009, Valve posted an introductory cinematic for the Team Fortress 2 character Sniper to YouTube. In the video, he says the line "Professionals have standards." The video has gained over 14 million views (shown below).



On October 13th, 2018, Redditor mommaschunkymix made a post to /r/tf2[1] using the line as a reaction image, gaining over 1,500 points (shown below).

Spread

The format began spreading to other subreddits, particularly /r/dankmemes, after that post. On October 27th, 2018, Redditor Blazing_Boi_66[2] posted the quote as a reaction image on /r/dankmemes, gaining over 9,500 points (shown below, left). On January 6th, 2019, Redditor samtheslave posted another joke to /r/dankmemes that gained over 2,900 points (shown below, right).
