About
Rawe Ceek refers to a poster for the 2020 British Grand Prix following the Don't Dead Open Inside trope, posted by the Scuderia Ferrari Twitter page in July 2020. The poster actually reads "Race Week," but the text is aligned confusingly to appear as "rawe ceek." The image resulted in a number of reaction memes across social media that month, remaining a popular reference in F1 memes a year later.
Origin
On July 27th, 2020, the Twitter[1] account @ScuderiaFerrari posted a poster advertising the British Grand Prix with large text reading in white, "Race" and black "Week" (shown below). The text, however, is laid out in a confusing way, leading many to read it as "rawe ceek." The tweet gained over 3,300 likes and 600 quote retweets in nine months. The image was posted by Redditor u/Goftrey to /r/formula1[2] on that day, garnering over 3,600 upvotes in nine months.
Spread
That day, people began posting numerous memes referencing and making fun of the poster for its poor design. For example, on July 27th, Redditor u/Martijngamer posted a Woman Yelling at a Cat meme to /r/formuladank[4] (shown below, left). On July 30th, Facebook[5] page F1 Trolls and News posted a Swole Doge vs Cheems format referencing rawe ceek (shown below, right).
On August 24th, Twitter[6] page @ScuderiaFerrari made a tweet referencing rawe ceek, writing, "It’s R̶a̶w̶e̶ ̶C̶e̶e̶k̶… Race Week" along with a promotional video, garnering over 7,000 likes in 11 months. 'Rawe ceek' references in memes continued to pop up over the course of the year leading into F1 season 2021 (example shown below from April 3rd, 2021).
On April 26th, 2021, a year after the original rawe ceek post, the official Twitter[3] page for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team posted an image referencing rawe ceek to advertise the 2021 Portuguese GP, garnering over 34,000 likes and 5,400 retweets in a day (shown below).
Mercedes' post inspired a number of other edits of the original poster on Twitter,[7][8] where users change the color scheme and car featured under the "rawe ceek" text (examples shown below, left and right).
