Rob Lowe's NFL Hat refers to a series of image macros of actor Rob Lowe wearing an NFL-branded baseball cap at a football game. The image went viral on Twitter in January 2020, inspiring jokes about Lowe not favoring either team in the game.

Origin

On January 19th, 2020, cameras filmed Rob Lowe at the Greenbay Packers-San Francisco 49ers game at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco, California.

That day, Barstool Sports ^[1] writer tweeted a screenshot of Lowe at the game with the caption "Rob Lowe just rooting for a good game and success of the league." The post received more than 63,000 likes and 4,300 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

That day, others shared jokes about the hat. Twitter^[2] user @JordanUhl tweeted, "Rob Lowe wearing an NFL hat in the crowd. Not a team. Just the NFL logo. Big fan of the league overall. Great stuff." The tweet received more than 14,000 likes and 600 likes in less than one week (shown below, left).

Hours later, Twitter^[3] user @ChaseMit tweeted, "A LIDS EMPLOYEE, ONE WEEK AGO: Are you sure, sir? No one's ever bought that one before. It's kinda just for display." The tweet received more than 100,00 likes and 7,600 retweets in less than one week (shown below, center).

On January 21st, Lowe posted the image to Instagram ^[4] and wrote, ”'I LITERALLY love football! And teams. Every one of them! They are all wonderful! Go team!'"-Chris Traeger," referencing his character from the television show Parks and Recreation. The post received more than 129,000 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
