Origin
On August 16th 2018, Redditor [1] Beretta_911 shared the earliest available version of the photograph in the /r/ANormalDayInRussia subreddit. The post received more than 460 points (96% upvoted) in less than two years (shown below).
Spread
That day, Imgur [2] user Masxad shared the image with the title "Russian Tony Stark," referring to Downey Jr.'s character's name in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series of superhero films. The post received more than 1,400 points (shown below, left).
The following month, on September 14th, Facebook [3] account Marvel Memes shared the image with the caption "Why does this man look like he about to tell Aunt May that Peter isn't coming home.' The post received more than 1,500 reactions, 800 shares and 70 comments in less than two years (shown below, center).
The following year, on March 26th, 2019, Redditor[4] gene100001 shared the image on the /r/WalmartCelebrities subreddit, where it received more than 7,500 points (100% upvoted) in less than one year.
Two years later, on February 29th, 2020, Redditor[5] Bulut97 shared the image with the caption "When you finally saved the world but now you have nothing to do." The post received more than 15,000 points (98% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than one week (shown below, right).
