About
Roscoe The Cat Sees Himself is an image macro of a cat laying in a sink and discovering his magnified reflection in a mirror. Though the image was first posted to Instagram in August 2019, the image went viral in February 2020 on Twitter and accumulated fan art and object-labeling memes.
Origin
On August 17th, 2019, Instagram user JustBeingRoscoe[6] posted the image and garnered over 1,100 likes in six months (shown below).
Spread
On February 17th, 2020, Twitter user @pinkafloyda[1] reposted the image and accumulated over 434,900 likes and 146,300 retweets in ten days.
The next day, Twitter user @PriWi[2] posted their painted "contribution" to @pinkafloyda and received over 3,900 likes and 350 retweets in nine days (shown below, left). That same day, Twitter user @WeaselFidget[3] posted an object-labeled meme of the image and gained over 970 likes in nine days (shown below, right). Buzzfeed[4] and Time[5] published articles on Roscoe, saying that he lives in Chicago with his owner Katie.
