Salam Dari Binjai (Eng. Greetings From Binjai) is a catchphrase that originates from a TikTok video about a man punching a banana tree until it falls, causing him to say "Salam dari Binjai," referencing a city in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The phrase became popular among Indonesian speakers.

On August 4th, 2021, TikTok[1] user @parispernandes_ uploaded a video saying salam dari Binjai and punching a banana tree until it falls. The video received more than 425,000 views (shown below).

His video and catchphrase gained popularity among Indonesian speakers and was reposted to various platforms such as Facebook[2] and Twitter.[3] For example, on October 5th, 2021, the same TikTok[4] user uploaded the most popular video with the sound when he responded to @yogaapraw17's comment that accused him of staging the video. The video received more than 35.2 million views (shown below)

On October 20th, 2021, TikTok[5] user @ajojiii uploaded a video that received more than 3.9 million views (shown below, left). On October 22nd, 2021, TikTok[6] user @rizkyyy_k uploaded a compilation video. The video received more than 10.2 million views (shown below, right).

On October 21st, 2021, Facebook[7] page Shitmeme Untuk Kebutuhan Iman uploaded an image of banana trees with the caption "Korban salam dari Binjai" (Eng. Greetings from Binjai victims)." The image received more than 2,900 reactions and 362 shares (shown below, left). On the next day, Facebook[8] page Spesialis-meme Andalan Negara uploaded an image showing a conservation between old and new banana tree (translation below, read left to right). The image received more than 2,600 reactions and 785 shares (shown below, right).

On October 20th, 2021, Twitter[9] user @onthesbrew uploaded images imagining before and after @parispernandes_ punched the banana trees. The tweet received more than 3,700 likes and 744 retweets (shown below, left). On the next day, Twitter[10] user @pantixxx uploaded a tweet using the Earthquake Makeup video to illustrate ghosts that have been annoyed by people who punched their banana trees. The tweet received more than 5,000 likes and 1,600 retweets (shown below, right).
Several Indonesian media outlets such as Suara[11], Kompas[12], and iNews Sumut[13] published an article about the video and the catchphrase.
