About
Sassy ASCII Dancer, also known as 1 2 3, is a three-part ASCII character featuring a text-based depiction of a person standing in three positions with a corresponding phrase next to each respective position.
Origin
The earliest known usage of the meme was published on April 29th, 2013 by Twitter [1] user @davidaak1991. They added the lyrics from the Beyoncé song "Single Ladies" next to each character. The post received more than 4,100 retweets and 1,500 likes in less than seven years (shown below).
Spread
Over the next year, others continued to share the character using the Beyoncé lyrics.[2][3] Several major brands also shared the character. For example, BuzzFeed [4] tweeted the image with the words "Three Day Weekend." The tweet received more than 2,300 retweets and 1,700 likes in less than five years (shown below, left).
On June 4th, Denny's restaurant chain tweeted[5] one that reads "Pan / Cake / Pls." The tweet received more than 39,000 likes and 36,000 retweets in less than six years (shown below, center).
On October 23rd, 2018, Twitter's[6] official account tweeted, "You are what you tweet." Within two years, the tweet received more than 69,000 likes and 24,000 retweets (shown below, right).
